Welcome to our section aimed at parents, carers, professionals or any adult supporting a child or young person. Meic is a helpline for children and young people in Wales, up to age 25. We can be contacted 24 hours a day by telephone, instant message or text. The role of the helpline is to listen to children and young people, provide information on issues that affect them and support them to tell others their view, wishes and feelings. The helpline specialises in providing advocacy by directly supporting and empowering children and young people to self advocate, by referring them to appropriate face to face advocacy services, or by advocating on their behalf.
Although meic is a helpline specifically aimed at children and young people we recognise that sometimes children and young people will ask an adult that they trust to support them or find out information on their behalf. This section of our website will contain relevant news articles and a comprehensive database of advocacy services for children and young people, up to age 25, in Wales. We hope that this will help adults to support children and young people in accessing appropriate advocacy services and having their voices heard.
Advocacy Services Database
Since our launch in May 2010, meic has been gathering information about advocacy services across Wales. Our database contains information about local and national advocacy services. We currently have comprehensive data on professional, independent services across Wales and we are continuing our work to map all advocacy services including peer support and self help advocacy groups.
